Removal of Fuel Subsidy: Trade Unions Call Off Strike After Meeting With Government
The withdrawal of fuel subsidies by the federal government prompted the trade unions, including the National Labor Union (NLC) and the Trades Union (TUC), to cancel the walkout they had planned for Wednesday.
Leading the government delegation and outlining how it intended to resolve the unions' complaints was Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The federal government, the TUC, and the NLC, according to the speaker, would establish a joint committee to examine the procedure and timeline for implementing the system as well as any requests for compensation increases.
The federal government, the TUC, and the NLC, according to him, will assess the money exchange scheme offered by the World Bank and make sure that those with low incomes are covered by the program.
