How the SSS arrested Emefiele and threw him in jail after Tinubu suspend him


Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, was taken into custody, according to a statement released by the Security Service of Nigeria (SSS).

Shortly after the announcement that the Federal Government had suspended him, the DSS took him into custody.

Peter Afunanya, the SSS Broadcasting Spokesperson, announced the announcement of Emefiele's arrest in a press statement that he shared with . 

"As a matter of fact, we are in possession of the late Godwin Emefiele, who served as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

 He is currently being held in detention, and while he was there, several questions concerning the investigation that is being conducted on him were asked of him. The statement that Afunanya gave to  was signed by Afunanya as well.


If we don't let it slip our minds, the SSS made an arrest warrant for him in December 2022, alleging that he supported terrorists, but the court rejected it since there wasn't enough proof to support the claim.

The President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, has given the order for Godwin Emefiele to be immediately removed from his position as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Tinubu's takeover of power from former President Muhammadu Buhari occurred less than two weeks before the suspension was handed down.


Willie Bassey, who serves as the Director of Publicity in the Office of the Secretary to the Federal Government, released a statement on Friday evening that contained the confirmation of Emefiele's appointment.


After a comprehensive inquiry of his office and the strategy to resuscitate the economy of the country, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was removed from his position.

Emefiele served as the Chief Executive Officer of ZENITH Bank prior to his appointment as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
