EFCC has prosecuted some Katsina government officials in court
The EFCC took two Katsina State Government workers to court because they stole 289 million Naira and put it in their own pockets.
Saadu Maiwada and Sani Lawal were involved in the event because they worked in the Office of the Accountant General of the Katsina State Government as the Chief Treasurer and Deputy Treasurer, respectively.
Wilson Uwujaren, who is the spokesman for the EFCC, said in a statement that they were brought before the Katsina State High Court and charged with five crimes, including plot to commit treason and fraud.
They were accused of plotting to steal 289 million naira from the government of Katsina and putting it in their own pockets in 2017.
"The investigation showed that the suspects used a bank account called Integrated Gas Services Limited to move the stolen money. Sa'adu is the Director of this company.
"They also took 49 million Naira, which was sent to the account of Integrated Gas Services Limited and Deputy Accountant General of the state Lawal BK," the statement said.
They said they didn't steal the money, so the judge let them go free on bail. The EFCC lawyer, A'isha Tahar Habib, asked the court to set a new date for the case to be heard, so the judge did.
The defendant's lawyer, J. B. Isreal, asked that bail be given over the phone, but the EFCC lawyer said that Israel must ask for bail in writing first.
The meeting was put off until July 24 by Judge Musa Danladi.
