Sudan Crisis: Governor Lawal Provides Emergency Relief For 66 Zamfara Students

The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal has provided humanitarian assistance to 66 students from the state who were brought back home from Sudan.

The government of Zamfara State sent 66 students to study in Sudan, and those who did not complete their studies were brought back as a result of the war.

In a press release issued by the governor's spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, it was stated that the Commissioner for Education gave clarification to the State Executive Council during its session on Monday.

He added that 14 of the 66 students who were brought back from Sudan are about to write the final exam in Nursing, before the start of the war.

The statement continued: "Last month, Governor Dauda Lawal directed the Zamfara Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to enter into an agreement with the management of the University of Sudan to see 14 students Zamfara were able to write their final exams in Nigeria. According to the system of the University of Sudan, Nigeria is not one of the institutions that can take this exam across the world. But because of the bravery of the Zamfara government, he made them believe.

"Also, the Zamfara Government has asked the Usman Dan Fodio University in Sokoto to provide the University's Specialist Hospital for the conduct of this examination. Which is approved by Dan Fodio University.

"Governor Dauda Lawal has borne the burden of the flight, accommodation and all other duties of the three teachers who came to Nigeria from Sudan to conduct this examination. This is all part of the governor's passion for education.

"This exam was conducted for 14 Zamfara students from September 23 to September 30, 2023.

"The Zamfara government is continuing to follow all the necessary measures to ensure that the provision of scholarships to the remaining 52 returning students is completed.

"The Zamfara Ministry of Education has already completed the registration of 32 of the remaining 52 students, who have completed all the assessments with the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja.

"As soon as the Federal Ministry of Education completes the evaluation of the students, they will be provided with scholarships in different universities."
