Keyamo appealed the 10 million Naira fine imposed on him by the Federal Court

Festus Keyamo, a former Deputy Minister of Labour, has filed an appeal against the punishment of 10 million Nigerian Naira that was imposed on him by the Federal High Court in Abuja. The fine was based on a frivolous complaint against a former Vice President of Nigeria named Atiku Abubakar.

Prior to the election, Keyamo filed a lawsuit claiming that the court had ordered the EFCC and ICPC to place Atiku under custody on grounds of corruption.

Despite this, the case was thrown out of court at the beginning of this week because there was insufficient evidence.

On Tuesday, Keyamo went to the Court of Appeal and lodged an appeal, demanding that the case he initially brought forth be reinstated and retried by a different judge in front of a different jury.

Because Keyamo asked the EFCC, ICPC, and CCB to investigate Atiku within 72 hours but they ignored him, Keyamo charged both Atiku and the three organizations.

The judge, James Omotosho, decided to throw out the case because, in his opinion, Keyamo did not have the authority to probe Atiku.

After that, a fine of 10 million Naira was imposed on him.

The Federal High Court fined former Minister Buhari at the beginning of this week for defaming Atiku, who is running for president of Nigeria.

The case that had been launched against Atiku Abubakar, the candidate for president of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), by Festus Keyamo, a former minister of labor, was thrown out by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

In the lawsuit that Keyamo filed against Atiku in court, he requested that the court issue an order to the EFCC and other anti-corruption authorities to place Atiku under arrest on charges of corruption.

Prior to the presidential election on February 25, the complaint was submitted by Keyamo, who serves as the Publicity Spokesman for the APC campaign being run by Bola Tinubu.

But when it came time for him to render his verdict, Justice James Omotosho tossed out the case, referring to it as "nonsense" and "evil plot."

On account of this, the judge handed down a fine of 10 million naira to Keyamo on Monday.

The judge decided that Atiku should receive 5 million naira from Keyamo as compensation for the time that was wasted. In addition to that, he compensated ICPC for the time that Keyamo had squandered.

If Keyamo does not pay the compensation within one year of the court's order, then the court has ordered that he be charged an additional ten percent each year until he does pay.

Mike Ozekhome, an attorney for Atiku, and Oluwakemi Osugun, an attorney for the ICPC, defended the case that Keyamo had brought.

All three of Keyamo, Ozekhome, and Odogun are considered to be senior attorneys (SAN).

The judge stated that the matter that Keyamo brought before the court did not raise any jurisdiction, that it just wasted the time of the court, and that she avoided following the regulations that are in place for the filing of cases in court.

Atiku Abubakar's attorney argued to the judge, prior to the case being thrown out, that Festus Keyamo does not have the legal standing to sue Atiku Abubakar since he did not specify how the charges made against Atiku harmed him. The judge ultimately decided to throw out the case.
